In 2011 I began a photography series called The Square Face where I would force myself to meet a new person each day, take a portrait of them and write about my experience. At first I started with family and friends and then worked my way up to engaging in interesting conversations with complete strangers. I was able to reach 85 portraits. It was an amazing experience and forced me out of my comfort zone. It’s always fun to look back on the portraits and recall each interaction. I don’t think anyone refused a portrait. The level of trust that is established between people when we simply talk to each other is refeshing.
